Meet Claudine
Claudine Tinellis is a Sydney-based author, podcaster and presenter/moderator. A former corporate lawyer, Claudine ventured into the world of publishing in 2014 as the editor of Coastal Chef: Culinary Art of Seaweed & Algae in the 21st Century and in the years since has dedicated herself to writing fiction and finding varying ways to support the world of Australian literature.
Claudine founded popular podcast Talking Aussie Books in 2018 and with more than 300 interviews conducted through her podcast and other literary events (book launches, literary luncheons and library talks), Claudine has become a much respected and in-demand interviewer and facilitator.
Claudine was an executive founding member of the Northern Beaches Readers Festival based in Avalon. From 2019 – 2025, Claudine was instrumental in delivering two highly successful and acclaimed commercial fiction festivals.
In 2023, Claudine was appointed the Fiction Category Judge for the prestigious Woollahra Digital Literary Award. The Story Behind the Mic
In 2017, I’d decided I wanted to write a novel.
I did a novel-writing course, but I was hungry for information about how to go about getting published – and what that journey looked like for Australian authors.
At the same time I was trying to get to know more people in the industry – attending festivals, book launches and other bookish events – AND I started to listen to podcasts (which back in 2017/2018 was rather new to me).
But… I still wasn’t getting the information I was after.
There were a few terrific podcasts around at the time who were interviewing Australian authors – but there was nothing out there that was focussed on Australian fiction authors and their experiences.
I thought if I was interested in learning more about the road to publication here in Australia, maybe others would be too. So I considered starting my own podcast – exclusively dedicated to Australian fiction and Australian authors because that was what I was most interested in.
I sat on the idea for a for a while, but once I’d made the decision, it was all fairly swift. With a microphone, a recording app and my computer I dived in and Talking Aussie Books was born in August 2018.
